Tara Ruby, award-winning and published photographer of Tara Ruby Photography grew up with her grandparents in Hagerstown, MD.
Following in the footsteps of her family’s military service dating back to the Civil War, Tara served in the Air Force before joining the other side as a military wife. With a background in IT, Tara left the field to pursue her dreams in photography and helping others. She enjoys volunteering and giving back to the community, with organizations such as Hiring Our Heroes, the USO, and MWR. She has three children of her own and currently lives in El Paso, TX.

Tara has received numerous awards in the past few years including 2012 Finalist in the Ron Howard’s Project Imagination with Canon, 2014 Army Digital Photography Contest Winner in the Military Life Category, 2015 Posh Child Magazine Artistic Feature Award, as well as receiving the prestigious Silver and Silver Distinguished Awards from Wedding and Portrait Photographers International. She has also been featured on Kids & Teens Fashion Magazine, Posh Child Magazine,and Model Source Magazine. Tara recently is known for her working in supporting breastfeeding mother’s and her work has been seen on CNN, BBC, Cosmopolitan and other news and media outlets.
In addition to these prestigious awards, she has been published in numerous magazines and holds titles such as Feature Photographer of the Professional Photographers of America “One of the Many Faces Project” as well as the Sole photographer for Freedom Crossing at Fort Bliss. She is also an Elite member of The Bump Society through Beauty and Lifestyle Mommy, A member of Professional Photographers of America, and many more.
Tara is deeply embedded into the military life, being a disabled veteran and a military spouse.
She has a sincere love of working to support our US Military and the families nestled within. She has worked to pioneer her own personal style of motherhood and military photography that has earned awards from organizations such as the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI), the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), The National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) as well as within the Army community.
Among hundreds of international publications, her photography has been shared on Facebook over 3.5 million times and featured in Vanity Fair, USA Today, Parents, SELF Magazine, The Huffington Post, Time Magazine and many more. Cosmopolitan magazine has called her work “stunning”, “powerful” and notes that her work caused “the internet to lose its collective mind” and the Gulf Coast Breastfeeding Center said, “Tara Ruby is to Breastfeeding as Ansel Adams was to landscape”. She was also a finalist in Ron Howard’s Project Imaginat10n contest, has images in the full-feature documentary, Homecoming The Film and has her image displayed in the US Army Women’s museum in Fort Lee, VA. Tara is a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography, holds an Associate’s title with WPPI and will receive her Photography Craftsman Degree with PPA in 2020.
